There is no single Bangkok starting point
The official estimates in this answer refer to different origins and services: some road descriptions use about two hours, while the Don Mueang operator uses about two hours and thirty minutes. Those figures should remain attached to their own source context.
A city-centre departure, Suvarnabhumi departure and Don Mueang departure are not interchangeable inputs. Selecting the actual origin is the first step toward a usable estimate.
Read road durations as estimates
The approximately two-hour road figure is expressly subject to traffic. The Don Mueang operator’s longer published estimate belongs to that named service, not to every Bangkok–Pattaya journey.
Neither figure is a guaranteed arrival time. Use the estimate for rough planning, then keep any deadline or onward connection separate from the operator’s headline duration.
Rail must be read service by service
State Railway of Thailand journey time depends on the selected train. This evidence therefore supports no single rail duration that can be safely substituted for the road estimates.
Check the actual SRT service for the intended date. Averaging a train time with coach estimates would hide the mode and source differences rather than improve the answer.
Use the estimate without overpromising
Choose the source that matches the origin and mode, and describe its figure as approximate. If arrival time matters, add a separate planning margin instead of converting the estimate into a deadline.
This evidence set does not establish a private-vehicle duration or one universal fastest option. Those questions need a current, route-matched source.
