What to do

  1. 1

    Confirm the departure qualifies

Verify that the itinerary is an eligible international air departure and that all national scheme conditions are met.

  2. 2

    Complete Customs before check-in

Present the required goods and documents for inspection and stamps before checking baggage or completing check-in.

  3. 3

    Keep stamped records accessible

Carry the required forms and original invoices through departure formalities for the later refund-office step.

  4. 4

    Proceed after passport control

Use the VAT refund office after passport control, subject to current staffing and the government's final checks.

Use U-Tapao only for an eligible air departure

The Revenue Department FAQ includes U-Tapao among the international airports with VAT Refund for Tourists offices. It also frames the scheme around departure from Thailand by airplane rather than a land-border exit. That supports U-Tapao as an official scheme airport, subject to all other national conditions.

The evidence does not establish that a domestic U-Tapao sector qualifies or that a traveller connecting elsewhere can complete the process in the same way. Confirm the exact itinerary with the Revenue Department or airport rather than inferring eligibility from the UTP airport code alone.

Complete Customs before check-in

U-Tapao's passenger guide directs eligible travellers to present the required goods and documents for Customs inspection and stamps before check-in. Plan this as a separate pre-check-in task. Do not surrender checked baggage containing inspection goods before the required Customs step is complete.

The frozen sources do not give a reliable processing duration, current counter position or flight-specific staffing span. Ask the airport or Revenue Department how early the relevant service will be available for the intended departure rather than inventing a universal arrival lead time.

Use the refund office after passport control

After the Customs stage and the normal departure formalities, the airport guide places the refund-office step after passport control. Keep the stamped documents and required originals accessible instead of packing them away after check-in.

This sequence does not promise approval, payment method, amount or processing speed. A traveller still needs the correct shop-stage paperwork and must meet the national eligibility, purchase, goods and timing conditions. Use the separate store-paperwork answer before reaching this airport stage.

Confirm flight-day operation

The Revenue Department's service-point framework was current to a 4 March 2026 update, but a current national page does not prove that every U-Tapao desk is staffed for every flight. Contact the airport or VAT Refund for Tourists office for the selected date and departure period.

Do not promise completion until both the claimant's eligibility and the operating handoff are confirmed. This answer deliberately avoids a terminal counter number, opening hours and domestic-flight assumption because the frozen evidence does not support those operational details.
